Building a Hockey Player
The Journey
A student’s journey within his/her hockey story would be similar to pursuing any other form of interest- be it pursuing the arts, or academic endeavors. Of the like, that journey starts at a young age. From the earliest memories of learning how to skate; or the purchase of one’s first real hockey skates; to playing on outdoor rinks and having to shovel the snow to do so; to a “big” goal; to traveling with your team to play a rival; and all the memories that the hockey journey can provide are priceless. Voyageur Hockey’s goal is to be an influential and memorable part of each individual that becomes a part of the Voyageur Hockey family.
The Process
In order to effectively build a hockey player; there is no stone that can not be overturned; no ingredient left out of the pot to be stirred. The Four Cornerstones of playing hockey- skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting – have to be meticulously developed within the individual to, then, establish a style of play; which, then and only then, can enhance the individuals creative side. In order to achieve the desired results, the ‘bricks’ within the Four Cornerstones must be properly placed and designed, and then accurately aligned for the player to be successful in preparation to move through higher levels of competition. The following is a map to better convey and illustrate the Voyageur Hockey approach to building the hockey player.
At Voyageur Hockey, our staff has the experience of teaching over 30,000 + one-on-one’s, small groups, as well as large group lessons in 16 years. With that experience comes the knowledge to effectively communicate The Four Cornerstones, and subsets to the four, to accelerate a players development via specifically designed drills and training methods within shortest time frame.
The foundation of the curriculum has evolved into a hybrid from the creative aspects of the past generational styles of play to the current systematic and strategic style in which higher skilled players have to perform within the team strategy, in which creativity must emerge.
Whether it is one-on-one or a small group, it is imperative that the staff adapts to each individual’s athletic challenges to improve his/her skills ability within specifically designed drills highlighting specific skills.
30,000 + Lessons truly separates Voyageur Hockey from its competitors because that number is predominantly in one-on-one lessons. When that knowledge is applied to each individual within a small group, your player is not just another signee for a camp or clinic; he/she is getting a semi-private lesson within a group setting.
Effective and result orientated teaching experience is combined with an in-depth and expansive curriculum unique to Voyageur Hockey.
